Deadly wrecks at Maine ferry and Connecticut trolley
At Bar Harbor Maine a crowded ferry pier collapsed sending about 200 people into the water. Twenty are believed dead with fifty injured. Rescue lacked physicians but rapid calls brought in help. a complete dead list follows. In Connecticut a Peck’s Mill trolley wreck in Derby killed twenty nine and injured fourteen as a bridge plunge sent a car into a drained pond. The injured and dead include residents of Shelton Bridgeport Ansonia Stratford Milford and Bridgeport officials.

Water flooded the hold as leaks worsened and pumps failed until engineers rigged a pump and reached port at six in the morning. Also reports fatal shooting of policeman Joseph O Leary by three burglars and another man William Borden shooting Mabel McKenna then dying by suicide. A one armed postal messenger Albert V Roe completed a long bike journey from New York toward San Francisco destined to reach by two months.
