Reserve Board Defends City Choices for Reserve Banks
The federal reserve Bank organization committee issued a statement defending its selection of reserve bank cities. It explains reasons for choosing Atlanta and Dallas over New Orleans, Richmond over Baltimore, and Kansas City over Denver Omaha or Lincoln, noting thirty seven applications left twenty five disappointed and urging acceptances through lawful channels. It argues banks are bankers banks and stresses Kansas City as a dominant regional hub with strong ties to the Northwest and that the district serves a large, contiguous territory better than alternatives.
