Aberdeen Wins Cup At Sixteenth Knights Convention
Nearly one hundred delegates from Aberdeen and Hoquiam attended the sixteenth district Knights of Pythias convention in Centralia. Wishkah Lodge of Aberdeen won the silver cup in the Friday night drill contest for the second straight time. The Aberdeen team performed degree work before a grand banquet and parade. A special Aberdeen-bound train of about a hundred knights left the city, and on the return trip an accident near Cosmopolis caused a brief scare but no damage.

Hirte Escaped Convict Swims River, Fugitives Hide Near Montesano
Montesano, Sept. 24. Charles Hirte, the Lyle road gang escapee captured in Montesano last June, slipped from Chehalis county jail last evening. He is believed to be in the underbrush between Montesano and Aberdeen. He swam the Wyncocie river south of Montesano at midnight, prompting Sheriff Payette to mount renewed pursuit to prevent another escape.
