Income tax push gains Senate support and party unity
The national platform endorses the income tax with a strong Senate push led by Senator Bailey and a parallel Cummins bill. Democrats back it with Republican help amid broad public favor, though the Bailey proposal offers a simpler, constitutionally safer approach by exempting state and municipal bond revenues. Critics warn that two bills risk division and question the Cummins exemption for corporations.
