Attorney General Rule on Bank Deposits and Credit for Tax
Assistant Attorney General Knickerbocker rules that money deposited in a bank ceases to be tangible property and becomes credit. Debts owed in good faith may be deducted from money or credits listed for taxation. Deposits subject to check or certificates of deposit create bank liabilities and the depositor holds a bank credit rather than ownership of the funds.
