Des Moines May 10. Senators Dolliver and Cummins opened Iowa's progressive campaign denouncing the Payne Aldrich tariff law as a scheme to rob the people and fatten syndicates. Dolliver blamed Aldrich and the Guggenheims for the tariff, urged party unity, and warned of higher prices if tariffs rise.

Aberdeen chambers plan a grand carnival next Saturday to boost census participation in Chehalis County. Agent Lundberg Assaults Witness in Gohl Trial Outburst

May 11 session of the Gohl trial erupted when H C Lundberg Sailors Union agent assaulted Captain H Smith of the schooner A J West in the courthouse. Sheriff Payette reported Lundberg was in the room. he fled then fought Smith, was arrested and jailed. Judge Ben Sheeks took the matter under advisement.

Knights of Columbus pick Aberdeen for next year's convention

Delegates at the Washington state annual Knights of Columbus in Vancouver select Aberdeen as next year’s meeting site. A banquet at the St. Elmo hotel last evening drew seventy five delegates and Knights, with reps from every Washington council in attendance.

Rancher's Home Burned Across River in Montesano

E H Frank rancher living across the river from Montesano lost his home and all contents Sunday afternoon. Fire started in the attic and spread before discovery. No water available due to private water works being out of commission. House shed and milk house burned to the ground.

Aberdeen Plans Fourth of July Celebration and Fund Drive

Aberdeen will celebrate the nation’s birthday on July Fourth in alternating years with Hoquiam. A general committee led by S. K. Bowes Geo J Wolff and L H Burnett will organize the event with subcommittees as needed and aim to raise at least 3000. They urge local businesses to contribute promptly to fund a proper program and attract crowds from Chehalis county.
