Dr. C. N. Rice died Wednesday night in Portland after traveling there from Aberdeen for rest and to visit his wife. The optician, aged and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, sought health in California as tuberculosis caused his sudden death. He had practiced in Aberdeen for three years and recently spoke of recovering health upon reaching California.

Steamer Lindsay Sets Course for Alaska Passage
The steam schooner A. G. Lindsay will depart June 6 for Bethel using the water route toward the Kuskokwim and Iditarod. It is the first coastwise vessel to attempt the passage, with 100 berths and freight spaces reserved. At Bethel passengers will transfer to the Commercial Steamship Quickstep to reach within 30 miles of the Iditarod.

The Washington Supreme Court held in C H Pealer v Grays Harbor Boom Co that loggers may obstruct streams when necessary to drive logs. It found the Humptulips River navigable in tidewater and that flooding to protect logs is a public use, with damages and compensation governed by 1905 laws. The decision contends the boom and driving companies may condemn land and flood areas while preserving navigable channels above the boom.
