Death of Pioneer Daniel Varner Passes at 79

Tacoma mourns Daniel Varner a Washington pioneer aged 79 who joined the Oregon Trail in 1850 and later sought mining in California and Fraser River. He settled near Orting, endured the 1855 uprising, aided Fort Steilacoom defense, logged mined and farmed before moving to live with his son in Chehalis County.

Barbers Union Lifts Wages and Hours Amid Whisker Trend

End of Life Remembrance for Miss Jennie Sargent in Aberdeen

The funeral for Miss Jennie Sargent will be held at the home of Rev. C McDermoth with a simple service. Born October 8, 1835, in Panora Iowa, she spent most of her life in Aberdeen and nearby, educated in Aberdeen schools. After pleurisy and an abscess misdiagnosed as consumption, she traveled to California and Arizona for help before surgery in Portland. she died at 12:30 midnight last Saturday.

The two brothers armed with a revolver and a knife returned to confront the boss but were overpowered by Frank King and Louis Nelson after a hard fight. Family in Hard Luck Over Typhoid in Aberdeen

Street Commissioner Hills reported at Grays Harbor hospital that a newly arrived Aberdeen family of a man wife and five children is in dire need. The husband’s work and income are ruined by illness, leaving them nearly destitute. The Bijou theater will donate proceeds from tomorrow night to the family, with local ladies aiding relief efforts.

Aberdeen Cats Triumph in Twin Tacoma Games

Aberdeen’s Black Cats, leading the league, defeated Tacoma Tigers 8 to 1 in the first game as Higginbotham dominated the mound and Butler struggled. In the second tilt Aberdeen edged Tacoma 1 to 0 in a tight nine innings with Dellar and Brinker delivering strong pitching and a ninth inning run.
