Government by Injunction in Campaign Debate
The piece discusses the injunction plank in the Republican and Democratic platforms, arguing that courts misuse injunctions to regulate personal rights and legislate, and cites three main issues: injunctive function, legislative power, and trial procedures. It then profiles William Jennings Bryan as a nationally traveled speaker whose influence and following have grown since 1896, noting his widespread appeal and the shifting Democratic delegation support.

Ethics Candidate Sheeks Will Not Campaign for Votes
Ben Sheeks named by Chehalis bar to succeed Judge Irwin on the superior court says he will not make a canvass or solicit votes. He cites an old English statute and Sir Edward Coke asserting personal solicitation is improper for a judge. He emphasizes the need for a square deal and readiness to serve without favors, arguing a political agency should not influence justice. Nine-tenths of Chehalis county attorneys favor electing Sheeks, seeking a judge with knowledge of law and practice and a square deal for clients.
