County Court Notes on Road System and Delinquent Taxes
The commissioners met in adjourned session July 8 with all members present. They referred the Dyehut road vacating to the county surveyor and set October 8 to hear the N P Ry Co petition to vacate L street Aberdeen. They accepted the resignation of Justice D K Newton Oakville, declared the Dyehut dock unsafe, and authorized a plat book of county acreage. Delinquent taxes for 1899 and prior years were remitted on numerous city lots in Oakville Westport and Chehalis. a special August 27 election was ordered on adopting the new road system. Quarterly road supervisor reports were approved and a petition for reduction of Henry Funeman’s assessment referred to the assessor. The treasurer’s balance on June 30 stood at 70,904.86 with most deposited in Montesano State Bank. A long list of road fund bills and relief requests were approved or postponed as recorded. A note highlights United States Engineer J M Clapp’s promotion and Hoquiam Commercial Club’s tribute.
