Governor Mead names railroad commissioners stir controversy
The Walla Walla Statesman criticizes Governor Mead for appointing three railroad commissioners Harry A. Fairchild John B McMillin and John C O Lawrence. It says none previously favored the commission and accuses Mead of betraying his anti election pledges and siding pro railroad interests despite lumbermen farmers and shippers urging representation. The paper urges restraint until evidence shows the commission's worth and credits Meads initial choice of Chadwick before his ineligibility but laments the final picks as pro railroad.
