The city engineer presented an annual report showing $310,022.84 in work under supervision, with $169,504 for grading, $89,860 for pavements, $17,206 for sidewalks and curbing, $19,900 for miscellaneous tasks, and $14,052.84 for sewers. Operating costs for sew ers building inspection and engineer's office totaled $10,262.60, with major shares to the engineer's office and sewer department.
Washington January 21 Special The progressive faction of the Democratic caucus has won control of Senate committees replacing the old system with a Committee on Committees. President-elect Wilson backs the progressives as leaders like Hoke Smith Thomas Gore Lake Lea Stone and Pomerene push reforms. Tariff hearings by Oscar Underwood conclude January 21 and are to be submitted to Congress in March. The public mood favors tariff reductions and renewed business activity is noted as the bill’s passage looms.
Tacoma January 22 The Northwestern Lumber Association the Seattle Chamber of Commerce and the Tacoma Commercial Club report the San Francisco market embargo on finished fir lumber is ended. They say about two million dollars worth of orders will come for the 1915 exposition. President Moore telegraphed assurance that all Washington raw material is eligible and exhibitors will be protected from harassment with no labor or material restricting agreements.
Aberdeen High school mid term exams conclude tomorrow with over 200 students. Seventy five honor pupils include 53 girls and 22 boys, with nine in five studies and eleven in four. Names listed for each honor tier across five to one studies.

Mrs J Ty Dillard aged 69 years 6 months 26 days died at Montesano after a brief illness. She was born Selina Autrey in Alabama on June 22 1844 and married J T Dillard in 1865. Survived by sons Robert and Enoch in Montesano daughter Mrs J F Lewis Flower Bluff Texas granddaughter Mrs Jack Jones. Funeral held at home and burial at North River with Rev D D Rice officiating. The Lima Bean Trust note appears as unrelated text.
