A Wayward Scout Guides Sherman to Council Springs
In 1865 General Sherman and the Arapaho and Comanche treaty party trek across a waterless prairie from Fort Zarrah to Council Springs. Billy, a young scout, helps steer the group after a misdirection, guides Sherman to springs, and later ferries the party toward Fort Kearny and Fort Leavenworth. He recalls a dramatic buffalo-hunt escape from pursuing Indians, aided by his horse Brigham and Captain Nolan’s cavalry.
