Transfer man badly injured in Seattle road crash
S. W. Johnston of Johnston Transfer, Tacoma, suffered a fractured skull and unconsciousness after a collision on the road to Seattle last Friday. Virgil Calami, who rode with him, said a rear truck sped ahead then swung back forcing the Johnston car into a ditch and into a telephone pole. Johnston remains in a Tacoma hospital with good recovery prospects despite the severe head injury.

Elma Feb 18 The McCleary door factory at McCleary resumed operations Monday after the longest shutdown in its history. The mill had been closed since last October due to the car shortage, but the company plans to try to continue operating.
Postal Savings Assurance During War For Foreign Residents
The State Department announces postal savings deposits are safe in war, pledging protection of private rights for both U S citizens and foreign nationals. The Postal Savings system will honor withdrawals on demand under the 1910 act. As of January 31 deposits totaled $115,660,000 with Aberdeen at $206,444 in a list of offices over $100,000.

Suter department store sold to Elma firm
Hoquiam, Feb. 18. P. E. Hallum and William Bermingham of Hallum & Bermingham, Elma, purchased the C. S. Suter department store of this city and took charge Monday. The Suter store is among the largest on Grays Harbor with about 35000 dollars in stock. The Elma buyers have long operated Irondale and Cashmere stores and bought the Wakefield store at Elma in 1915 before moving to Hoquiam.
