A plan to experiment with cattle on enlarged scales in logged off Chehalis county lands is under way with Polish ranchers. A carload from Corvallis, Oregon, was delivered to A Mallinowski and moved to the logged lands along Wishkah river. Washington Puget Sound soil survey report released
The Department of Agriculture issued the Reconnaissance Soil Survey of the Western Puget Sound Basin in Washington. It covers 4288 square miles across San Juan Island Kitsap Thurston and parts of Chehalis Jefferson Clallam Mason and Pierce counties with 116 pages and two maps. The report notes rolling uplands broad river valleys and proximity to larger markets with lumbering remaining the main industry and agriculture growing in alluvial valleys while upland clearing costs slow development. Dairy farming and fruit growing are profitable in the area with oats small grains and potatoes grown in the southern alluvial valleys and durable yields from orchards of apples pears plums and smaller fruits.
