Chehalis Arrives for Four-Game Series With Aberdeen

The Chehalis baseball club traveled to Aberdeen for a Carnival series and opened at Athletic Park with an 8 to 4 win. Roxey Devers umpired and favored the Aberdeen pitcher at times, but the visitors pulled ahead with a strong first inning and solid fielding, signaling a promising matchup in the series.

County actions and road surveys approved by commissioners

The board ordered a resurvey of the B L Titus road and considered Calder’s $300 tax payoff proposal on 300 lots. It established and opened the Harry F Taylor road, directed a survey of Stayt et al’s petitioned road, ratified Commissioner Smith’s contract for bridge approaches, and struck 1901 taxes on improvements in Aberdeen as error. It authorized payments, advertised bids for Porter creek bridge, arranged road right of way funding, and sold old Dan Gleeson bridge iron for $50 before adjournment.

Road Out of Aberdeen Sought by North Side Citizens

A Tuesday meeting of Unanimous Citizens for a wagon road outlet from Aberdeen on the east led to a 25 member committee plan to press county commissioners for funding. A. J. West chaired. M. R. Sherwood, secretary. I. Mason estimated a 2940 foot pile trestle road at $5,000 with a $10,000 bond offered. The group urged city taxes for its share and asked county action to build north of the river to the city line, with an upcoming county good roads convention scheduled.

Carnival Opens With Parade and Queen Coronation

Carnival opens under Woodmen of the World auspices drawing a great crowd to the pavilion. Parade starts at Atlantic hotel led by police and band, with Queen Nellie I and guests. Detailed booth lineup and Friday Saturday program listed with prizes for baby shows and a grand balloon ascent.

Democratic Caucuses Held Across Aberdeen Precincts

Democratic caucuses to elect delegates to the county convention occur Saturday evening Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. in four Aberdeen precincts. East precinct at East Aberdeen hose house elects 6 delegates. West precincts meet at the Aberdeen Herald office and I. W. Mason building to elect 6 and 7 delegates respectively. fourth precinct meets at Creech Bros. carpenter shop to elect delegates.
