Two carloads of cattle were shipped from Aberdeen on Tuesday to Carstens Packing company in Tacoma. Likely the first shipment of Chehalis county raised cattle from Aberdeen, with stock driven from the Quinault valley.
In Tacoma a Roosevelt convention decided a complete third party ticket for county, state, and congressional races. Chairman Beeks required signing the convention call to participate, prompting protests and a police warning. State committeemen including Mrs. M. Lube Loomis and others were chosen to work with the Aberdeen campaign committee. delegates to the July 15 Seattle progressive convention were ratified.
State Tax Commissioner T. W. Rockwell urged that parents with children in state colleges, the university, or normal schools should directly pay for education. He argued half of state taxes fund schools including higher education and questioned why others should subsidize those who do not use them.
Alvin Heinrich and William Anstie left yesterday for Lake Quiniault. They traveled via Humptulips and plan to return down the Quiniault River by North Beach and Copalis.
A Sun canvass finds four of 57 Republicans in Congress ready to leave Taft and join Roosevelt’s Bull Moose. Senators Miles Poindexter and Joseph M. Dixon and Representatives George Curry and A. W. LaFerty are ready to quit the regular party. Most Republicans in the House remain undecided or seek to support Taft indirectly while courting Roosevelt.

The ten day Chehalis river valley maneuvers concluded with the red invading force defeating the blue defense under Brig Gen M P Maus. The exercise drew high praise from Army officers for its realism and value as wartime campaigning training. A Spokane soldier of the Second Infantry contracted typhoid, while officers noted the Northwest coast would require two divisions to deter overseas invasion.
