A major blaze in East Aberdeen destroyed the West & Slade Grocery building and the Ovitt-Bigelow Co. stock along with adjacent structures near Kansas and East Wishkah streets. Firemen from Aberdeen and Hoquiam fought high flames, saving the Slade mill and surrounding properties. losses totaled about 75000 with 43200 insured. Cause undetermined though West & Slade officials suspect spontaneous combustion.

Sudden Deaths in Montesano Leave Community in Shock
In Montesano on April 24 Mrs. Jennie Pugh aged 78 died of heart failure in her sleep. Her sister Mrs. F N Wilson found her body the next morning. Pugh was sister to pioneer citizen F N Wilson and aunt to County Commissioner C N Wilson and Sheriff Schelle Matthews. Also found dead Tuesday morning was Mrs. Mary Sweeney at a similar age, who had gone to bed after a day of illness.

Governor Lister Asked to Attend Grays Harbor Festival
