Seven census enumerators began work in Aberdeen carrying blanks pens and official commission badges. The effort aims to count residents and the floating population over 18 days in the city and 30 in county areas.
Washington officials warn against accepting promises of reappointment tied to Poindexter's senatorial campaign. The Wenatchee post office case shows patronage rejected, with Rufus Woods backing Poindexter and Terry L. Ross chosen by the president over I. M. Hull. New York April 16 The United States Steel corporation and its subsidiaries announce a relief plan for workers injured on the job and for families of those killed. Starting May 1 for one year the plan provides temporary disability benefits of 35 to 50 percent of wages plus allowances for children and years of service, permanent injury lump sums, and death benefits equal to a year and a half of wages plus child and service bonuses. A 10 day waiting period applies before relief begins.
The nineteen member committee of struck Philadelphia Rapid Transit workers voted to accept a settlement offered through the American Federation of Labor. Terms are not public but reportedly include features of Mayor Reyburns March proposal to rehire all strikers with two dollars a day until regular runs resume. Two of the fourteen discharged may be sent to arbitration amid a wave of trolley-car fatalities blamed on inexperienced motormen.
Micheal Daley was brought to the police station from the depot yesterday in a delirious condition. He was later transported to St. Joseph's Hospital for medical treatment.
In Yakima county the sheriff declares idleness evidence of vagrancy and orders all idle men arrested. Five men were taken in Teppenish and sentenced to thirty days on the chain gang as ranchers report difficulty hiring at 2.50 to 3.00 dollars per day.
