A Democratic congress prepares to assemble and push tariff measures while Washington doctors its way through a new regime. In Aberdeen the mayor and council election features Republican and Socialist tickets with ward battles over bridge location and voter turnout likely shaping the outcome.
The Northern Pacific Railroad company issues a switching tariff effective May 10 allowing Aberdeen and Hoquiam mills to ship lumber via Oregon Washington lines. The rate is 7.50 on non competitive lines and 15 on competitive lines, aligning with the tariff agreement between Northern Pacific and Chicago Milwaukee and Puget Sound.
C. W. Hutton, long associated with Schwabacher in Seattle and Aberdeen resident, will manage the grocery department of F. G. Foster company’s new wholesale establishment now opening in Hoquiam. He is well known across the region for his business ties.
Ed Wiley the nightwatchman at Slade mill spotted two men beneath the office and shouted. They fled as officer Burgeson arrived, leaving a loot list including gloves, socks, coats, overalls, shirts, tobacco, thread, a slicker, and a sweat er. Entry was via broken rear door, and no identities or clues were found. The robbers knew of a store room with logging camp supplies.
Mrs. Axel Anderson narrowly escaped injury when a loaded dray from Pacific Fruit & Produce backed onto the sidewalk in East Aberdeen. Driver Ed Hanson was arrested after the incident and posted bail for appearance in police court.

At a Saturday city council meeting a tacit agreement was reached to put the bridge location to a popular vote with the plan to build a new bridge. If approved, a special election on April 29 would be postponed. choices are Second street or Cleveland street.
Bremerton considers forming a strong commercial club to attract navy yard work, factories, and residents. A mass meeting will seek plans for a representative body, weighing Olympic peninsula and Grays Harbor development proposals and a Kitsap county road and rail corridor to Aberdeen and beyond.
Frank A. Vanderlip president of National City Bank in New York says farm lands in the Pacific Northwest are the best investments and urges people to acquire land while possible. He spoke in Portland during a visit hosted by the Portland Commercial Club praising regional prosperity and banking soundness.
Aberdeen and Hoquiam commercial bodies push to build a plank road from Humptulips City to Quinsault Lake this year. Commissioners Hopkins and Davis reportedly favor the plan as 6,000 acres in Quinsault are underutilized, with 1,200 acres already cultivated and a major need for market access.
