Local notices report October 30 postponed to prevent conflict with the Grand Patriotic Ball set for November 6. H Gazley announced the change. Also noted are progress on a Marshall road residence, new Sumas road home, 130 pupils at the local school, a Ladies Aid meeting October 31, and upcoming social events and thank yous from church groups.
Thanksgiving was well observed in Mt Lehman with Sabbath School services at the Presbyterian church on 11th Street and a Conundrum Social in the Orange Hall. Rev. Dunn preached at 11 am and Rev. Reid spoke at 7:30 pm with six reasons for thankfulness. The Conundrum Social featured a maple leaf decorated church, a potluck supper, performances, and a conundrum quiz enjoyed by a large audience. Local residents and visiting figures from Vancouver attended, and the community planned further social and literary events for winter. Weather remained fine and farmers reported good potato harvests.
Margaret L Henderson late of Scotland wed Alexander Sutherland principal of Abbotsford public school at Cedar Cottage Vancouver. Rev Dr Wilson officiated. The couple plan to reside on Yale Road and received many congratulations. A grand reception followed their Abbotsford arrival at the depot.
The W announces a Cinderella Social inviting friends to attend with tiny cloth shoes as the admission fee set as three times the number of the shoe. The quirky notice invites participation in a playful event.
A Hallowe'en party and dance will be held in the Orange Hall on Thursday October 29. An invitation will be issued by the hostess. The event is described as novel and promises fortune telling with gates old and new.
The Womens Missionary Conference at the Presbyterian church on Thursday attracted many ladies from Vancouver and nearby towns. Rev Wm Scott spoke at the evening meeting in place of Prin Mackay. Attendees included women from Chilliwack Huntingdon Clayburn Mt Lehman and Pine Grove. A Belgian relief fund concert and a town can party are planned with more notices to follow. The Spinster's Return is set for early December and Mr Less Murray completed a new five acre home on Sumas road.
Messra Catherwood and Watson announce a change in the monthly auction date. The sale formerly set for Saturday is moved to Friday October 20th. The notice clarifies the new timing and location for bidders.
At the last meeting of Mission City Lodge No. 108 I B M W BL officers were elected for the new year. F Cook was named President, W D Aves Vice-President, Wm Chell Past President and Journal Agent, L Beaton Sec Treas, F Bird Conductor, R Wardrop Warden, M Anderson Inner Sentinel, J McLaughlin Outer Sentinel.
A dated September 12 copy of Natal Newsletter, the unofficial organ of His Majesty's ship Natal, washes ashore in England. The eight page cyclo style issue carries typical features including remarks on water, fleet headlines, and a garbled note about Germans in Paris.

The New Westminster fall criminal assizes begin Monday the 2nd of November with a calendar of ten cases of serious character. Prosecutions include two murder charges two attempted murder cases and one manslaughter case. Other offenses cover false pretenses incest rape and alleged assaults. The list features Ragmal Matsui Hindoo and a Ladner murder case among notable proceedings.
