Matsqui Patriotic Work Through Women Institute Efforts

The Matsqui Women’s Institute led Patriotic Work since August 1914 with shirts for soldiers, Red Cross and Belgian relief funds, and aid to prisoners of war. The organization collaborated with the Ridgedale Relief Association and Matsqui Red Cross Workers to fund and ship garments, towels, bandages, and supplies to Vancouver and local centres. The report notes substantial sums raised and numerous garments produced, plus community activities and local notices.

Abbotsford Musical Recital Awards Certificates

A musical recital hosted at Abbotsford featured pupils of Miss Steede receiving certificates from the Associated Board exam in all grades from Primary to Advanced. Mr Hilt-Tout presided, praising music’s value and the Board’s high standards, and two students, Irene King and Freda Nelson, won book prizes for proficiency.

Red Cross Contribution Boxes At Post Office

The Red Cross contribution box is in the Post Office. Those who pledged but did not return slips should sign the amount and their name and return to secretary-treasurer Mrs. J. Parton. Receipts will be issued after three months detailing funds allocated to war and patriotic causes. The Ladies Aid of St. Pauls Huntington met at Mrs. Mer Crae's home in Sumas Washington this week with good attendance.
