Government remount officer to visit Abbotsford for horse purchases

Mr. B. Michell will visit Abbotsford on Friday June 18 to inspect horses aged five to ten years. They must be in fair condition, sound, well formed, and suitable for saddles or officers’ chargers. Artillery horses heavier than prior purchases are sought. See advertisement elsewhere in this paper.

Prisoner of War Arthur G Croke Writes From Germany

Fraser Valley Record reports Arthur G. Croke son of Mr Chas G. Croke of Minadoon City left with the first Canadian contingent and writes from Kri fingenen Lager Giessen Germany that he is a prisoner of war in good health. He describes clean huts plain food and allowances for parcels and letters but notes prisoners may only write two letters and four postcards a month and that his correspondence avoids war details. He mentions being wounded in the hip by a maximum gun and asks for Bull Durham tobacco and papers, hoping to return to Canada soon, and asks to share news with friends and family.

High Honor For Charles Hill Tout Chysen Lecture Honor

Mr Charles Hill Tout Chysen of Abbotsford received a Royal Society of Canada invitation to deliver the popular lecture Ancient Man in the Light of Modern Discovery before Ottawa Society members at the Chateau Laurier. Ottawa press praised his brilliant address to 300 400 attendees. After Ottawa he travels to Santa Fe for the American School of Archaeology talk.

Sumas council meeting review and road works notes

The Sumas council met at the Municipal Hall with Reeve and councilors Roberts Stratton and Lamson present. Discussion covered burning logs near property, road maintenance on Harris road and ditches by Mr Shearer at a cost of 30 dollars, bills from A Boley and a 3 dollar refund, excess road acreage, and proposed graveling of Angus Campbell road with 150 loads under Roberts and Austin. An appointment was made to discuss a proposed drainage route with the reeve.

Court hearing over C P R Co appeals on 1914 assessments

M Greaves appeared for the C P R Co to challenge the 1914 assessment rise claiming uniformity and justification. The court overruled the plea and then Greaves declared under oath costs for Oil House Plant and Tank in 1918 at 3609 and two section jounes in 1907 at 2600.
