Rescue in the Utah Mountains Aiding a Brigham Young Escape
The narrative recounts Mark Pratton and companions aiding Miss Belle Ackerman and her lover in eloping from Salt Lake City in 1851. They flee toward California with horses and mules, evade authorities, and after a perilous pursuit, rescue is accomplished as the fugitives are later found safe. The party recovers horses and returns toward Bear River, while reporting the lovers’ escape from Brigham Young’s circle and their eventual marriage in California.
