Washington, May 26. Director-General McAdoo announced pay raises for about 2,000,000 railroad workers effective next Saturday and retroactive to January 1. The plan, likely totaling over 300 million dollars yearly, includes back pay, equal pay for women and Negro workers, and a new wage board to address in equalities.
Miss Ruth Howie and Miss Edna Bradley are at home from Brenau College where they have done well in their studies and reflected credit on their home town.
The quartermaster corps requests a total of 5 781 910 383 dollars for fiscal year 1919, up 1 335 100 000 from prior figures. Secretary Baker cites expanded army plans necessitating a new war revenue bill before Congress adjourns, with pay, supplies and subsistence framing the major costs.
County Red Cross groups visited churches to present organization aims to Black citizens and raised 3549.65 with church totals listed. Glovers Chapel led with 882.50 and Flat Rock 626.00, others include Salemoe 562.00 and St. Peter 463.50, with a long list of speakers at each stop.

Washington May 25 Another record for the Tuckahoe boat built in 27 days has logged a coal haul of 4 992 tons in 2 hours 53 minutes. The feat was announced late this afternoon.
A Sunday noise was not airships but Abbeville speakers delivering talks to colored people in various churches, as observed in the county.
May 26 report from Montdidier says American forces carried out a silent raid injuring six and capturing one without artillery aid. Berlin telegram claims heavy American losses in the Picardy front patrol repulse. German press notes reinforcements and watches Yankee troops against seasoned German youths.

Government says Count von Bernstorff and Captain von Papen coordinated a German backed scheme to spark an Irish revolt with German troops to land off Ireland. A German submarine was said to be ready to unload arms and troops as Dublin uprisings were planned to coincide with Western Front offensives. Arrests stalled the plot and Sinn Fein leaders were seized.
German forces restart pressure on the Western front after a four week pause, striking in the south near Rheims and Soissons and in Flanders near the Lys north, aiming to disrupt the British line and threaten Paris. The Somme sector near Amiens, the prior main focus, may see action as the battle evolves.
Rev. J. L. Grier recently visited Abbeville with Rev. M. R. Plaxco. He returns from Princeton and will lead the Clinton Associate Presbyterian church this summer. Last year Grier and Hunter Blakeley traveled to Canada for missionary work in the North West. Blakeley will be stationed at Wrenn's, Ga., this year.

One of the first subscriptions to the Red Cross Fund came from Raiford Foster McMillan who drew the interest on his Liberty Bond and gave it to the fund of mercy. His brother Lieut. Leslia McMillan is making an excellent record at Camp Jackson and Camp Sevier.
