County Goes Over In Liberty Loan Victory Drive
Abbeville exceeded its Liberty Loan quota of 135000 dollars during a well oversubscribed drive. The county's final tally not yet known, but the women's committee raised over 10000 dollars with canvassing on Friday and Saturday. A rally at the Court House featured Mrs. C L Slatter and Chaplain J Sproles Lyons with a moving account of the 118th Infantry burial. Officers and executive committee men of the South Carolina Press Association met in Columbia and designated Greenville as the site for this year’s annual meeting. Dates set are June 25 26 and 27. Greenville Piedmont editor J Rion McKissick urged Greenville’s bid while Rock Hill editor O K Williams invited officials from Rock Hill. A Winthrop building was offered for use but Rock Hill timing was ruled impractical. A committee was proposed to study a mountain camp site for future meetings and a vacation bungalow for families.

Negro Shooting Near Abbeville Leaves Man Wounded
Theodore Willes, a Black man, was shot three times by S A Nance, another Black man, about ten miles north of town at the Oale B Rogers place. Willes was taken to Anderson Hospital and not expected to survive. Nance was arrested and jailed in Abbeville. sheriff and deputy investigated amid long-standing tensions.

Doc Jenkins Apprehended in Abbeville County
