Numerous guests arrive and depart, including Mrs Lilly Allen from Atlanta, Mrs G W Moore of Elberton, and Miss Eria Haskell at home for the summer. In Lowndesville on May 11 1908 Mr B F Mauldin president of the Bank of Anderson visited with stockholders and directors of the Lowndesville Bank and the officers. Also mentioned are the Anderson district Elder D L Barnes and a preaching service at the Methodist church. The piece notes cotton and chick mortality and reports a fatal shooting near the depot involving two men and a woman with no inquest planned.
Advertises Hamilton & Brown shoes as the best on earth for men boys ladies and children in tan and black stating durability comfort and wide range of sizes.
Silk and silk like fabrics advertised for sale. A black taffeta 36 inch wide is offered at $1 per yard, claimed to be unbeatable at this price versus rivals charging at least $1.25. The notice targets dressmakers and shoppers seeking bargain textiles.
An endorsement from J H Nash of Laurens SC lauds Doan's Kidney Pills for kidney trouble and backache. He reports irregular kidney action, back pain, and relief after use, claiming strengthened kidneys and reliable action. The ad notes price 60 cents and Foster Milling Co as U S agents with the slogan Remember the name Doan's.
Reports from Cincinnati describe a keen public interest in Cooper and his theory that the stomach is degenerate. Interviews with residents claim substantial relief from stomach troubles after using Cooper's New Discovery, with testimonials from Mrs. M. E. Emergon and J. H. Brooks praising the medicine and its effects. City Drug Store endorses the remedy as remarkable.
State notice that on June 1 1908 administrators Simpson and Hagen will render accounts of the estate of W. J. Stevenson deceased in Abbeville County Probate Court at 10 o clock. They will apply for final discharge and urge any demands be presented proven for payment.
