Sacrament Debate Rejected by Methodist South Conference
In Hot Springs Arkansas on May 11 the 19th general quadrennial conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South rejected by eight votes a minority proposal to grant unordained ministers the right to administer the Sacrament. The majority report to not enact the change passed 188 to 115 while Dr J P Hilburn of Orlando argued the church should preserve time honored traditions. The session also reorganized the Sunday school board and approved a $10 million fund for superannuated ministers. A long biographical note on Charleston leader Mr Harvey follows.
