In France, May 5, American artillery in the Luneville sector drove the German forces from front positions and damaged areas behind their second line. German forces abandoned territory at least to a point beyond their second line with only scattered machine gun posts remaining. Heavy shells caused widespread havoc along lines south and southwest of Halleville near Luneville, near the German border.
