State Took Prizes At Corn Exposition
Clemson chemist Prof T E Keltt and botanist Prof H W Barre returned from Dallas where South Carolina’s exhibit at the National Corn Exposition drew prizes amid a moderate turnout. D R Coker of Hartsville won world class prizes in oats and barley, plus top spots in cowpeas and beans. J Swinton Whaley of Edisto Island swept firsts in Sea Island cotton. Clemson butter scored 98 points, third highest in America, despite exclusion rules. Other honors went to Pinehurst, Summerville for plant and tea, and James Teland for grapefruit.

Tragic Abbeville child dies after fire in night clothes
Eight year old J W Nabors son of Mrs Claude Cochran caught fire from a grate while in night clothes. He ran from his mother to avoid the flames and died about four am. He was a bright pupil and well liked. The community offers sympathy to Mrs Cochran. Funeral services were held at eleven o clock yesterday at the Baptist Church with burial at Long Cane Cemetery.

Woman Arrested for Bigamy in West New Brighton
A woman on Egbert Avenue, West New Brighton, was arrested on a bigamy warrant after confessing to four marriages. She wed James Ward in Manhattan on February 4, 1896, then Dominick Galgano in 1898, Charles Zumbell in Hoboken, and George Lightcap in June 1913, with subsequent separations and a later complaint by Zumbell.
