Secretary Denby publicly reprimands Rear Admiral William S. Sims for a London speech that criticized Sinn Fein sympathizers in America. The action mirrors a 1911 reprimand for a London address. Sims, who met with President Harding, said he accepted the reproach and resumed duties at the Naval War College in Newport after having left England on leave.
An editor from a fictional paper dismisses a poem with a witty jab about charging postage for reading it. The Chiggersville Clarion narrator visits the Birmingham Age-Herald to observe the mockery of literary submissions.
Washington reports show the Public Health Service training center at Pascagoula Mississippi faces insanitary conditions and widespread discontent among 98 percent of students. Columbia reports state officials uncover a fraudulent $1,000 bond from the radical era. Treasurer 5. T. Carter received the bond from Elkins Morris and Co. of Philadelphia and learned it was null and void by legislative act. The issue is dated January 1, 1869.
Grand jury in Tulsa returns indictments against seven civilians and five city police including Chief Gustafson. Accused face charges of conspiracy to dispose of stolen automobiles. Gustafson also charged with failing to enforce firearm laws. Judge suspends all accused police pending trial.
Four trustees of the Abbeville District will be elected at a meeting in the courthouse tomorrow evening at 7 o'clock. They will succeed W. M. Barnwell J. D. Kerr J. C. Thompson and the late Albert Henry.

Mrs. L. W. Brooks widow of Dr. Jeff Brooks died at a Columbia hospital Saturday afternoon and was buried in the Episcopal cemetery. Services were by Rev. A. J. Derbyshire. Survived by three sisters in Watts, Athens, and Philadelphia, and two sons in New Mexico and California. She was in her late fifties and had suffered intermittent illness.
