Mrs. John Bruce Dies After Long Illness
Mrs John L Bruce died June 21 1917 at her home after a long illness. The funeral was held at the home and burial followed at Long Cane Cemetery. She was the eldest daughter of the Sprouse family and is survived by her husband John L Bruce a son John and daughter Mary a sister Miss Clyde Sprouse and five brothers Lewis Ralph Grady Ira and others. The family has the communitys sympathy.

Death of Captain Austen Sunday
Captain W. H. Austen died in his room last Sunday afternoon June 24 1917 after a long illness. He came to Abbeville years ago with Seaboard road and befriended locals, aiding community life. Ill health led to care by the local Masons who provided comfort, and he was buried Monday morning with Masonic honors. He had no relatives in the county.
