Taft Wins Republican Nomination Over Teddy Roosevelt

After a midweek start the Republican National Convention closed with Taft and Sherman nominated for President and Vice President. Roosevelt followers stayed to the end but did not back his ticket. A Progressive faction formed by about 300 Roosevelt supporters plans a Chicago convention in August. Some Democrats may back Roosevelt’s running mate, though Bryan and Wilson are mentioned. The Roosevelt camp claims the nomination was stolen by the party leadership. Governor Hadley of Missouri among those who split or debated leaving the party to run independently.

Abbeville Motor Car Company reports continued vehicle sales during a slow season under President Wm. P. Greene and Manager A. M. Stone. Recent transactions include a 30 touring car to John T. Clinkscales of Eywith, an Everitt 96 Tour to Frank G. Tompkins of Columbia, and a model 30 Everitt touring car to E. O. Horton of Anderson. More cars are in immediate prospect.

Florence governor clash nearly erupts at rally

At Florence yesterday the governor and rival candidate faced a near clash as Judge Jones spoke. The crowd favored the Governor and attempted to silence the judge. Governor Blease tried to speak but Judge Jones appeared angered by the interference. The county constable intervened to restore order.

An examination will be held at Greenwood on Tuesday January 7 1915 to select two principals and six alternates for two vacancies at the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. Will Try for Fire Men's Tournament

Abbeville will not send a team this trip, but McKenzie and Elgin will gather details to prepare for a future Abbeville event. Senatorial campaign opens in three corner race at Columbia

The Democratic party opened its senatorial campaign with a three candidate field including Tillman Dial and Talbert. The Third district also features Wyatt Evans Long for Congress and solicitor Cooper unopposed. Campaign stops run from July 9 in Newberry to August 5 in Pickens.

The State Building and Loan League of South Carolina met at Isle of Palms June 1 and 20 with Charleston hosts. G Cullen Sullivan presided as president. J S Morse of Abbeville named Second Vice President. Abbeville invited next year’s session, and officers include Hyde of Charleston as President and Bowman of Orangeburg as First Vice President.
