AFL Declines to Endorse July 4 General Strike

Atlantic City June 17 delegates at the AFL convention refuse to back the general strike for July 4 in protest of Tom Mooney's imprisonment and censure the Mooney defense committee. The body directs the AFL to pursue a new Mooney retrial through proper channels. A separate vote rejects labor recognition of Soviet Russia while urging withdrawal of troops from Russia and blocking non democratic regimes. A two-person committee will travel to Toledo to meet Willys-Overland officials to settle the strike there.

Adinkerke Belgium June 18 President Wilson orders all American vessels unloading in German ports to ignore British orders to stop discharging cargoes and to disregard a British push to reestablish the blockade. Naval vessels are also told to ignore Britain’s blockade reinstatement.
