Indictment in Laurens County Shooting Case
Joseph Sullivan, a young farmer, was indicted by the Laurens grand jury for the murder of John M. Cannon a Laurens attorney and South Carolina Democrat. The shooting at Gray Court on May 12 followed an alleged confrontation after Cannon prosecuted Sullivan’s brother for disorderly conduct near a county school. The prosecution says Cannon was struck down while attempting to flee as two bullets hit his cheek.

Sheriff and deputies, with detective W P Drennan, raided Edgar Hall's plantation two miles from Anderson. They found a 26 gallon still under construction but not in operation.
