Abbeville Paving Bonds Sold After Bid Process
The Abbeville city council sold a 90,000 street paving bond issue to The Trust Company of Georgia at par with a 326 premium. Twelve bids were received, most at 5.5 percent, with final bids ranging 102.27 to 289. The winning bid beat Cincinnati and Toledo bidders by about 7,000, and the city will pay about 740 in selling costs.

W A Stevenson sold 14 registered Jersey cattle at auction Saturday afternoon at J Allen Smith stables. The sale grossed 2055 dollars with an average 148 per head and attracted a large crowd. Mark Smith Murdered Near Abbeville in Suspected Racial Attack
Mark Smith a Black man living with L A Ramey near Abbeville was brutally murdered Saturday night three miles from town after a car attempted to pass. Four or five white men in a separate vehicle fired as Smith tried to flee on foot. Sheriff Burts and Deputy Cann lead the investigation amid lingering fear and calls for justice. Smith had a prior incident where he shot Deputy Cann during a liquor raid and was acquitted at the February term with James S Stark as foreman.
