Death Claims Two in Community During Graduation Night

The audience at the High School auditorium endured joy and light before news spread that Mrs. Eugenia Robertson and Mr. James Cusimert Chalmers had died. Mrs. Robertson, wife of Col. J. T. Robertson, leaves three daughters and two sons. Mr. Chalmers, a former Newberry marble business man, had suffered years of illness but was well regarded. Funeral services were held at the Episcopal church with a large turnout, and both deaths cast a pall over the community as teachers and families mourned.

The Harrelson Literary Society Formed at Harrelson

In Greenwood County on May 25 1801 a group of youths from Harrelsonville organized the Harrelson Literary Society at the home of Mrs W A Harrelson. The aim is to unite efforts to advance education and character through lectures and study, with officers elected quarterly and meetings every Friday at 8 pm.
