Newberry Man Slain by Negro on Public Road
Newberry County records report the first homicide in years as 35 year old Robert Wicker was shot on a public highway near his home by Clarence Setzler. Manuel Setzler, uncle to Clarence, is said to have fired a shotgun at Wicker but missed. Clarence fired four times with a pistol, one shot striking Wicker. Sheriff Blease and Deputy Sheriff Dorrch rushed to the scene four hours after the killing. Manuel Setzler was found in bed at his home while Clarence was at large.

Clemens Mich July 16 One of the largest financial transactions in recent years was announced as Edsel Ford the 25 year old president confirmed he had bought out all minority stockholders leaving control in his hands and his father’s. The deal was arranged through Old Colony Trust Co Boston with Stuart W Webb Bond Goodwin and F M Holmes assisting. The move follows a court decision that blocked Ford profits plans and forced distribution to stockholders. Ford says policy favors profit sharing with workers and lowering prices as production grows. He aims to extend plants worldwide and continue sharing profits with employees while reducing prices whenever possible. The consolidation marks centralization of control in the Ford family as Henry Ford’s plan to issue a cheaper car is superseded by plans to expand the existing company.
