In Augusta on July 3 authorities said Ernest Hart taxi driver Milledge Derrick express messenger and farmer W J Quattlebaum confessed to robbing the express safe on the Charleston and Western Carolina railway train. About one third of the payroll of 59725 for Partin Island marines was recovered. Hart led officers to a buried portion but could not locate the rest. Quattlebaum and Hart accuse each other of possessing Derrick s share.
