Paris January 10 ratifications of Versailles exchange made peace effective for all except the United States. Germany notes U S still at war and hopes for change. State Department confirms armistice terms remain binding. ratifications completed in Paris at 4 16 pm. Also a Baptist church conference reports pastor Louis J Bristow salary raised to 3000 per year.
Sherman Smith, an elderly Black resident living near Little Mountain, was struck at his home yesterday evening by Arse Tilaney and is not expected to survive. Billy approached seeking a woman, and when Smith refused entry, Rilly struck him with a public safety item. Deputy Sheriff T. L. Cann left Monday morning to arrest the Black resident.
Chicago report says William Jennings Bryan and President Wilson share the goal of immediate ratification and a swift league of nations. Bryan notes 56 senators favor ratification but differ on reservations, advocating compromise to avoid the treaty becoming a campaign issue.
The Civic Club holds its open annual meeting Thursday at 4 PM at Mrs. Wm. Greene’s home. Major Fulp, a World War veteran and former University of London student, will give an address on his experiences in London and a reception with Lady Astor. Ladies are invited.
Mr. R. S. Galloway, a welcome visitor, notes the Corner people doing big things in a business way and advancing religious progress as they keep the Sabbath day. He praises steady growth and community activity in the Abbeville scene.
The Abbeville County delegation led by Senator J Towari Moore and Representatives M J Ashley and R T H McAdams departed today to attend the State Legislature session, which convenes tomorrow.

Senate unit Hewe vonforges today on Beech and Cupwiye railroad bills backing a revolving fund of 400 million dollars. They seek to borrow to tide over post return to private operation. Cummins bill passed at 300 million and Exch measure at 250 million.
The Book Chairs will meet Wednesday afternoon at four o clock with Ms. Gordon White. The note records a small club gathering with Ms. White leading the session and a defined meeting time.
Attorney General Sam Wolfe traveled to Atlanta at the Georgia Attorney General Clifford Walker's request for a conference on the boundary suit between Georgia and South Carolina. Georgia faces a weak case if the middle of the river is the boundary, with potential hydroelectric gains for Georgia and revenue shifts from South Carolina.
An illustrated Y M C A lecture will be given at 7 30 in the Baptist church West Newday evening by Pendleton and Lanham about overseas Y M C A work and sites in Riviera Paris and Belgium France. The stereoptican views are engaging and mainly explanatory. Admission is free with compliments of the National YMCA. A special musical program will precede the feature.
The Flo-Plo event drew above average crowds with energetic performances. One dancer, Holo, drew mixed reactions but the overall display pleased the audience. The Finns’ play improved the mood and the spectacle highlighted the evening as a notable cultural moment.
Mr and Mrs ROS Galloway and Mr Galoway and Dr Parkinson attended a dinner at the home of May after a guest sermon at the Presbyterian church. Dy Parkinson preached and Rev and Mrs IMR Plage hosted the guests at the Frye home.
James S. Banks, 52, died at home Sunday night after a brief pneumonia illness. A recent Abbeville County resident from McCormick County, he had moved to the R. S. McComb place before Christmas. Survived by a widow, two children Gary and Jamie Banks, two brothers Arthur Banks of Columbia and Banks of Miami, a sister Mrs J W Johnson of Thompson, and half brother E C Walsh of Thompson. Funeral Tuesday at 11 at Long Cane cemetery. Rev. Louis J. Bristow officiating. Arthur Banks attended the funeral.
Victor Berger of Milwaukee, a Socialist reelected from Wisconsin’s Fifth District, was denied his seat again in a 228 to 6 vote. The elections committee, led by Chairman Dallinger, had recommended barring Berger for aiding the enemy, with support from Mann and Voight and Sherwood in opposing the exclusion.
Greenville on January 3 reports show cotton mill stocks rising amid optimism for 1920. Victor Monashan, Woodside, and Dunes common shares climbed from Saturday figures, with gains ranging from three to twenty points as brokers work to curb speculation and delivery issues.
The Diseavy family loans a stack of Shakespeare plays and Evans Wilson volumes for the library to expand the Tibeary collection.
