Washington January 6 new demurrage rules aim to speed freight car unloading effective January 31 with two days free time. Charges rise 50 to 100 percent after the free period, reaching 10 dollars a day at maximum. Rates differ from prior levels and apply to domestic traffic with some export rate exceptions.

Thornton Sells Interest in Acker Building Yard
On Saturday A. Graves and sons bought out Jas. Thornton's share of the Acker Building and Repair Company's lumber yard. The yard began eight years ago with Graves, Thornton, and Acker as owners. Two years later Graves and Thornton bought Acker's stake. Graves now owns the yard, with his sons Clyde and Floyd to assist. Thornton will complete a cotton mill project.
County preps as auditor arrives to check books
Mr. W A Stevenson stated the county officials are ready for the state auditor to review their books. Mary Doug lass Evans is the bookkeeper and assistant, with all finances arranged so the auditor can depart on the afternoon train. The county is out of debt with one note remaining and funds in the bank to cover it. If all goes well, the county may soon seek to lend money.

Double Tragedy Near Mt Carmel Ends In Fatal Shootings
Tobe Bowen, a white farmer near Mt Carmel, shot his wife and then killed himself last Thursday noon. Rumored motive centers on a letter indicating marital strife as she planned to leave. Bowen urged his son to shoot him, refused, and then used a pistol to end both their lives. He left a sum of money for burial expenses. Both victims died instantly, leaving several children.

Tax Rule Requires Split Values On Land And Buildings

Last Thursday while eating dinner Mr Charlie Bruce felt numb and may have had a stroke. He went to Dr Harrison who took him to Dr Neuffer. Doctors advised Pryor. He departed on No 6 and reports say he is doing fine and hopes to be home soon.
