California Congressman John A. Elston Dies in Potomac
The body of Representative John A. Elston of California was found in the Potomac River after he disappeared Tuesday. A note in his coat spoke of a chain of circumstances spelling ruin and embarrassment to his district. Elston, a Republican from the Sixth California district, had been concerned about Alameda naval base development and reportedly decided not to seek reelection. He left a hat and overcoat on the riverbank. his survivors include a widow and four children.

Child Dies After Fire Sparks From Clothing
Four year old Mildred Fisher of Dug West died Friday evening from burns after her clothing caught fire near a fireplace while her father was away. Her mother heard the screams and the fire was put out quickly. Funeral services were held at Bethel churchyard with Rev. WL Coker presiding.

The Highway Commission invites bids to build the Abbeville to Mt Carmel road linking Abbeville to the McCormick county line. The 7.46 mile route passes the Hill place and Lebanon church to Mulberry church at the county boundary. Bids open Saturday January 7 at the commission office.

Chicago December 17. Thirty Protestant church denominations through the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America promulgated their program for permanent peace. They urged aid to Austria, Russia, and Armenia and the creation of international courts for settling world problems. The council praised Britain and Ireland, discussed wording to reference the league of nations, and sent prayers to the league. They stated the Washington arms conference was a good start and that war must be outlawed, urging U.S. support for Harding and fair debt adjustments to ease nations’ economic difficulties.

Warsaw police arrest suspect in Wall Street blast link
Warsaw officials say Wolfe Lindenfield alias William Linde, cousin of Rosa Luxemburg, confessed to connections with the September 16 1920 Wall Street explosion and named ring leaders and the Morgan target. An American justice department agent states Lindenfield agreed to testify and return to New York with a wife and two children. He claims funds came from Moscow Third Internationale.

Camden Fatal Family Row Ends in Shooting
In Camden, Dec 17, W Hamp Jordan, a white man about 50, was shot dead one mile north of town after a family quarrel. Coyt Jordan, 19, son of the deceased, was held by a coroner's jury for the killing after evidence that the elder Jordan attacked the family while intoxicated and drew a knife. Coyt fired through the house glass with a shotgun, killing him instantly. Jordan leaves a widow and several children.

Train Guard Fires On Passengers In Denmark Shooting
Harmon Dusenbury of Conway and J R Swygert of Peak were shot by a Seaboard Air Line mail coach guard at Denmark at 4 am. Dusenbury suffered throat, foot and hand wounds while Swygert was struck in the thigh. Both were students connected to the University of South Carolina.
