Abbeville Prizes Contest Promises Big Rewards

The Press and Banner and Abbeville merchants launch a 90 day voting contest offering a $400 piano and many other prizes. Readers are urged to pick up nominating blanks and 25 vote coupons, with sponsors including Dargan-King Co and L. W. White Co. Also reports are given of the death of John Thomson Clinkscales and a political parole case involving R A Richey in Abbeville County.

Mr C. C Gadbrell attended the State board of health meeting in Columbia on Thursday. Mr W. It Crowther of Antreville visited Abbeville on Saturday. J. W. Carlisle of Lowndenville was in town Monday. Jim Hy civil, once a typeset operator for The Press and Banner and The Medium, departed Sunday for Mobile for a new post. Wishes go to Mr and Mrs McDavid for happiness in their new home. Visitors last week included Mr Charles Hirschmore and Miss Ethel Birchmore of Camden, en route to Georgia to visit relatives. Birchmore is owner and editor of The Water Messenger. They stayed with Mr and Mrs W. T. Walker.

Fire chief solicits holiday fire prevention cooperation

Mr. J. V. Klein, chief of the fire department, asks The Peeees and Banner to publish department revisions and urges all citizens to cooperate in preventing fires during the holidays. Combustible material easily ignites from fireworks explosions and should be removed from premises in both residential and business areas. The call emphasizes timely action by property owners and housekeepers and cautions against careless handling of fireworks.

Tillman Refuses Support and Access in Custody Dispute

A South Carolina conference reports Henry C Tillman and Mrs Lucy Dugas deadlocked over child support of Douscha and Lucy Frances Tillman. Tillman rejects monthly support, nurse accompaniment, and summer or Christmas custodial rules, while Mrs Dugas prohibits his entry to her home except under court orders. The case faces final Supreme Court action later today.

Auto accident suit seeks $5,000 in Abbeville

A lawsuit filed by Virginia Latimer through guardian Marion Latimer names Anderson and C as defendants for $5,000 over an automobile crash south of Abbeville on July 5. Miss Latimer aged 14, Beulah Armstrong, and Samuel Latimer were injured. Attorneys Moses Bornhem Watkins & Allen represent the plaintiffs. The collision involved a big car owned by Dr. T. O. Kirkpatrick and included Mrs. Kirkpatrick and others. Samuel Latimer was driving.

Governor Blease to Hear Emerson Clemency Case
