Christmas Tree Planned for Presbyterian Sunday School

State reports growing 1923 vehicle license applications

Columbia dispatch notes motor vehicle license applications for 1923 are arriving steadily at the state highway department. A shipment of plates from St Louis was sent last Thursday and is due tomorrow night. Officials hope to begin issuing the new plates by Thursday morning.

Fire causes heavy damage in Spartanburg stores

Fire from a cook stove in the Es W C A cafeteria over Hobbs Henderson Department Store on East Main Street broke out at 12 45 a m and was under control by 2 05 a m. Washington December 12 The Supreme Court will not review FP M Jeffords murder conviction in Columbia from last spring. Chief Justice Taft announced the denial after Jesse Adams a Washington attorney presented a motion for a writ of error. Jeffords is under a death sentence for December 22 and contended unfair trial.

Supreme Court Rules Prohibition Can Be Enforced by Federal and State Courts

The court held that without a congressional provision a state conviction for manufacturing transporting or selling intoxicating liquors does not bar federal prosecutions for the same acts.
