State budget requests near ten million for 1921

The budget commission estimates 1921 state government and allied work will require 9,868,206.59 dollars in appropriations, far above 1920 levels. The commission’s recommendations, due in January, are expected to be the largest in state history, with education and other departments driving the rise.

County Savings Bank Re opens For Business Tomorrow

County Savings Bank re opens its doors Tuesday morning after a temporary closure by officers with stockholders. Bank Examiner Craig and Assistant Bradley found the bank solvent and advised reopening. Craig said the action resulted from a misunderstanding and urged continued patron cooperation to maintain confidence in the banking system.

Ernest McKee Hurt In Auto Accident

Yesterday afternoon a car carrying Ernest McKee and eight others from a Young People's Society meeting collided with a Piedmont & Northern crossing near Greenvale church. Ernest, 15, sustained head and back injuries but was not seriously hurt and is improving at Greenwood Hospital. His brothers William and Robert McKee, Pet Brissey, Connie Winn, Janie Milford, and Gussie Mabry were uninjured or lightly shaken.

Cotton Goes Down on Government Crop Estimate

The government census today at 3 o clock put the cotton crop at 12,987,000 bales. Prices weakened all day and closed about 75 points lower from Saturday. New York spots also fell 75 points while the local market held steady. Good cotton sold from 16 to 17 cents.

R Bradley Appointed Acting Collector in South Carolina

R Bradley of Abbeville has been named Acting Collector of Internal Revenue for the District of South Carolina. He succeeds D C Heyward, who resigned to take effect January 1. Bradley, former chief clerk, is familiar with office affairs and will serve until March 4 or until a successor is appointed.

Parents and Teachers Meet Wednesday for Christmas Program

The December meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association will be held Wednesday at 4 PM in the graded school building. Elementary pupils will present a Christmas program for attendees. It is the last meeting of the year and all members are urged to attend.

New Lights Brighten Graded School For Pupils And Teachers

The board of trustees recently purchased 400 watt Brascolites to light the dark rooms at the graded school. They have been installed and are welcomed by pupils and especially teachers who had four yard time teaching on cloudy days.

The Presbyterian Church in Abbeville hosted Dr Charles A Campbell of Quitman Georgia who preached two sermons and drew praise for his deep piety and scholarly mind.
