Ford A. Erwin of Antreville reports a car abandoned beside the road. He stood it along the roadside for a while and moved it to the edge. He believes the vehicle was stolen and may have balked or broken down.
Geneva Aug 30 The league of nations council accepted the task of deciding the disposition of Upper Silesia with Viscount Ishii as president for the Silesian talks. Germany and Poland may be invited to present their claims when the council meets again Thursday. The council also set routine business for tomorrow with Dr Koo presiding, Ishii to take chair during the Silesian phase. Albania’s delegation arrived to appeal the Greece and Yugoslavia dispute, while smaller powers protest Britain’s staff dominance and seek proportional representation.
Report from Cutta India August 30 says nearly seven hundred members of rebel bands in the district south and southeast of the city have been killed by British forces. Several Europeans are dead. seventy men of Leister regiment and seventeen native policemen are missing. Hindus massed, bridges felled, troops moved from Cannamore to quell the Moplah revolt near Ponani. Comus crew landed. British troops and cavalry reportedly arriving in the Malabar area. Reports attribute the unrest to religious fanaticism and Moplah hostility to Europeans and Hindus, with nationalist propaganda fueling the movement.
Anderson Aug 29 The county delegation met Saturday to discuss legislation for Anderson County. They voted to protect the county treasurer by authorizing an additional 5000 for court expenses after the initial 5000 was spent in the first quarter. The action covers the next term of court and includes a 1000 appropriation for the home demonstration agent for next year.
Governor Morgan telegraphed President Harding seeking federal troops to quell armed insurrection in Cabin Creek Logan and surrounding coal fields. He cites 1500 armed men, clashes near Sharples, five Logan officers held, trains seized, telephone lines cut, and warns delay could bring great loss of life.
Dr. Douglas Mahon accepts a position with McMurray Drug Co and will arrive in Abbeville on the fifteenth to begin work. He is noted for courtesy and business acumen, having previously traveled for Henry Giffin Co of Baltimore. Mrs. Mahon, Miss Wakefield Matson, is a familiar Abbeville figure, with her three sons, and will be welcomed warmly by friends.
President Harding issued a proclamation ordering miners gathered near Marmet West Virginia to return home by September 1. The War Department will publish the proclamation. General Bandholtz will oversee enforcement and ensure compliance or face martial law.
A church committee returned from Clemson highly encouraged by the visit and expect Rev W E B Davis to accept the Abbeville Presbyterian post. Davis will not leave his current pulpit yet but hopes to visit Abbeville within three weeks. Eight church members accompanied the delegation, including J C Thomson and J S Morse.
Police reported a Ford touring car owned by J. Dendy Miller stolen overnight from in front of his Vienna street home. Officers are following clues that may lead to arrests later.

New York reports life insurance companies paid about 4.5 million dollars in auto death claims for 1920. The year saw 12,000 fatalities and 1.5 million non fatal injuries from automobiles. Total life insurance distributions by US and Canada companies reached 1.19 billion dollars, including maturities and annuities. Top death claim was 555 thousand to Wallace L. Pierce's heirs. Hammon heirs received 465 thousand. Olive Thomas Pickford was insured for 135 thousand.
October futures hovered around 60 points below the day’s peak, closing at 16.02 per unit while spot middling cotton stood at 16.50. Tom Wilson was released on bond from jail, where he had been held on a liquor storage charge.
Belfast Aug 20 street fighting flared again after 7 this morning amid clashes near Duncairn Gardens North Queens street and New Lodge road. Two killed yesterday and last night bring fatal toll to four with many wounded including an army sergeant and a five year old girl Annie Watson. Forty eight wounded taken to hospitals as police and military battle gunmen from windows and roofs.
Mrs. M. M. Kennerley and her children left last week to join Mr. Kennerley in Florence. They have been living on Nickles Street. Mr. Kennerley works for the Fruit Grower's Express Company of Florence. They will make their home in Florence.

Cleveland mayor A S Fitzgerald disclosed that his marriage to Margaret Chilton Tucker was kept secret three years ago. Miss Tucker, a New York native, is grandniece of Texas Senator Chilton. The couple met in Washington on official business and married quietly for her musical studies abroad. The mayor, 41, has served since May 1, 1920.
