The Rev. Howard Weeks of Darlington announced from a Methodist pulpit that he will begin duties October 15 at Abbeville Baptist Church. A Missouri native with a 23 year ministry, Weeks led churches in Canton Missouri Vicksburg Mississippi Mansfield Ohio and Darlington South Carolina. He and his wife have two college aged children.

Bandits kill postmaster and wife in Arizona ambush

Rev. J. J. Watkins pastor of Bellwood Avenue Baptist church is held on $1,000 bond after a Thursday crash at Lee Street and Avon Avenue. C. J. Miller, 73, of 557 Lee Street, suffered four broken legs internal injuries and severe bruises, transported to Grady hospital then home. Miller was alighting from a College Park street car when Watkins’s car struck him. Police took Watkins to headquarters. D. R. Miller, the injured man’s son, witnessed the accident.
