Women gain suffrage as Colby signs proclamation

Secretary Colby signed the Nineteenth Amendment proclamation at his home after Tennessee certified ratification. Washington announced the proclamation, placing suffrage into effect and enabling registration for the fall elections. Governor Cooper said South Carolina women are now qualified voters and registration begins Monday.

Scholarships Awarded by State Board of Education

The State Board of Education announced yesterday the winners of scholarships to Clemson College Winthrop College and the University of South Carolina. From Abbeville County Miss Pauline Clinkseales wins a Winthrop scholarship for another year and Miss Myra Williams gains a county scholarship conditionally. George Cann receives Clemson scholarship, and S. A. Williams of Route 3 Abbeville also wins a Clemson scholarship.

Gossett Request for New Trial Planned by Court

Nine Year Old Undergoes Tonsil Operation at Memorial Hospital

The nine year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Reese had her tonsils removed yesterday at Abbeville County Memorial hospital. The operation was successful and the patient is recovering well. Dr Norden of Anderson performed the procedure and several others.
