Policeman Brown Shot in Columbia Tragedy
In Columbia on Aug 18 a hundred officers and civilians hunted a negro after he shot and killed H. Frank Brown of the Columbia police. The suspect, believed in a Blythewood swamp, fled on a stolen horse whose tracks and the killer’s cap were found. An eye witness, a white youth, saw the shooting as Brown confronted the man late at night. Bloodhounds from Newberry aided the search. police expect capture soon.

Board of Trustees chooses tile backing for new school
In a special meeting the Abbeville Board of Trustees decided the brick walls of the new school building will be backed with Dennison interlocking tile after review by Charleston architects Lockwood Green. The change saves 1772 dollars and aligns with Citadel building practices. Engineers will survey for a football gridiron behind the building, planned as modern and possibly usable before season end, sized about 200 by 800 feet.

Car Turn Near Bold Branch Injures Bethin Man
Frank Woodhurst of Bethin section severely injured this morning when his automobile turned over near Bold Branch. His right leg was smashed and several stitches were taken by Dr. Gambrell at the hospital. Marshall Hall, passenger, was knocked unconscious but soon recovered and was not injured. Woodhurst, driving, reportedly lost steering gear control leading to the crash.
