Bids will open Friday at City Hall for repairing remodeling heating and fighting the Abbeville County Memorial Hospital ongoing appeals aim to raise seven to ten thousand dollars more after ten thousand already subscribed stock. The hospital seeks modern equipment and a model operating room to become a money making enterprise while accepting financial loss in early years. Mr. David Gilliam, a long known county resident, died Monday afternoon at his home near Hinsell's Station. He is survived by his wife and a number of children, and by one brother, Da Foot, of this county.

Fatal automobile wreck claims Osborne on Cedar Springs road
Thomas Osborne died when a Cadillac driven by him rolled over after 3:30 PM Saturday one mile from town on Cedar Springs road. Milton Hodges and Edward Harris were seriously injured with broken ribs and a fractured collarbone. Bryant Bonds, a Cotton Mill policeman, avoided injury as the car was destroyed. Osborne’s funeral was held Monday at Long Cane Cemetery.

Cleveland August 17 report that 117000 firemen and hostlers across the United States and Canada demand 85 to 65 percent wage increases in a scale adopted by 300 general chairmen of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen. They seek mechanics stokers and two firemen on coal burners over 200000 tons, and revised rates for passenger and freight service with overtime rules and Sunday or holiday pay.
